“Reiki is an energy that flows freely,
bringing peace to those who receive it,
both human and animal alike."

– Mikao Usui, founder of Reiki

What is Animal Reiki?

Reiki comes from two Japanese words: Rei (spirit) and Ki (energy), meaning spiritual or universal life-force energy, which reflects the healing energy from our core being, capable of healing both ourselves and others, including animals.

Animal Reiki, simply put, is a way to connect energetically with animals, allowing them to relax and feel safe enough for their own healing process to begin.

Animals are not inferior to humans; they are powerful beings who live in the present and can give unconditional love.

They are sensitive to each other's needs and to humans, providing comfort and even healing when needed.

When used correctly, Reiki creates a peaceful, calming energy that animals are naturally drawn to.

Some benefits of Animal Reiki:

Animals receiving Reiki can experience several benefits, including:

  • Greater comfort

  • Improved wellbeing

  • Relaxation, which may lead to sleep

  • A stronger sense of self

  • Peaceful transition for those nearing the end of life

Reiki helps animals relax, allowing their bodies to heal naturally from illness, injury, or stress. It also supports positive choices and helps animals cope with challenges.

Reiki energy is gentle and can be given to animals of any age, as long as they are open to receiving it. If they do not want it or have had enough, the energy will stop flowing.

How does it work?

Before a Reiki session, the animal's owner or carer will share some details, like the animal's personality, why they want Reiki, any health issues, and if the animal has had Reiki before. This helps decide how to give Reiki safely and effectively.

For wild or rescue animals, we might not have all this information.

Animal Reiki is gentle, with no diagnosis, no manipulation, and no pressure. It’s all about offering calming energy.

Sessions usually happen where the animal feels most at ease, like at home or in a familiar space. If the animal is new to Reiki, the practitioner may start by not touching them at all.

Animals might feel different things during Reiki, like warmth, coolness, or tingling. Some may sniff the practitioner’s hands or move closer to certain areas that need healing.

Reiki can be done anywhere-whether it's in a stable, birdcage, or on their bed.

Sessions usually last between 30 minutes to an hour.
