What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that promotes relaxation and stress reduction, which in turn supports the body’s natural ability to heal.
Our bodies naturally have healing mechanisms, like the immune system, which works to restore balance when we get sick.
Reiki enhances this process by shifting the nervous system from the stress-driven "fight or flight" mode (sympathetic) into the "rest, digest, and restore" mode (parasympathetic), where healing can take place.
Since the body can't repair itself under stress, this relaxation is crucial.

Reiki is based on the idea of life force energy that flows in and around all living things, which keeps us alive and healthy.
This energy moves through specific pathways in our bodies, like chakras and meridians, which help keep everything in balance.
However, stress, trauma, and negative experiences can disrupt this energy flow, leading to feelings of imbalance or discomfort.
Reiki is given through the practitioner’s hands, either by placing them on or just above the body to help restore the natural flow of life force energy.
When this energy flows properly, we feel balanced, sleep better, and handle life more easily.
Reiki helps clear any blockages caused by stress, allowing the energy to flow as it should, which brings us back to a state of well-being.
It can also be sent over distance, meaning the recipient doesn’t need to be physically present to benefit.
Distance Reiki has always been a part of the practice, long before the pandemic, and Reiki itself has been around for over 100 years.
